Ok- so you may wonder what in the world does the election of the president of the USA have to do with Hannah–well, technically nothing. But, it has a LOT to do with me.
The past 2 weeks at church we’ve been doing a character study on Hannah. I missed the first week, but the second proved to be more what I needed to hear anyway. Ever since this study I’ve been trying to figure out how to blog about Hannah. What could I write that would put her story out there and make it apply to me and others. Well, thanks to our election yesterday- I now know what to write.
When you look at the story of Hannah- it takes barely 2 chapters of the Bible to tell her story, but it’s a story we all know. The story of the woman praying so hard for a child that the priest thought she was drunk. Then she is given the child she wanted to badly and in return she gives him back to God to grow up and be one of the most respected and loved Bible characters of all time. Check out the first two chapters of 1 Sam.
Here’s the thing Hannah wanted a child so bad she wouldn’t even eat (not a problem I’ve ever had- I get upset, bring me more food). 1 Sam 1:8. She went to the temple to worship and Eli saw her praying he accused her of being drunk, but when she explains, 17 Then Eli answered, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition that you have made to him.” After that Hannah didn’t continue to fret and worry. It says 18 And she said, “Let your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
First of all Hannah had faith that God would hear her, then she had faith enough to leave it in His hands. How does this relate back to the election- simply- God hears our prayers, it is up to us to have faith to leave it in His hands. We don’t need to fret over what will be because we have been given a promise in Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. As Christian we know the end- WE WIN. We have nothing to be concerned about b/c in the end we are God’s children and He’s got our back.
I’m saying don’t worry about who the President of the US is. I’m not saying don’t be prepared, don’t do your job to live out your faith daily. I’m saying that our job is to be like Hannah and leave it in His mighty hands because if He cares enough to make sure that the sparrows have food how much more must He love us.
Sweet Dreams and Pleasant Nightmares,
