Children and worship

Our church has something we call “Bible Hour” and for some reason, a few people get their knickers in a knot when someone accidentally calls it “Children’s Worship”. I have heard it said that “children can’t worship”. I absolutely wholeheartedly and completely disagree. Children may not be able to sit and worship in a church service the way you and I do, but my children worship God every day. The sing songs praising God and about His love all day. They even make up songs about God and Jesus and how much they love us. My oldest is too old to go to Bible hour, has been for a couple of years, but he learned about God and he was praising God when he was in there. Now he sits and occasionally listens to the sermon, but he still picks up on things. If God didn’t think children could ‘worship’ why would He have mentioned them so often in the Bible.

Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read, ‘From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise’? Matt 21:16”

” He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.  And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. Matt 18:2-6″

We can learn so much from watching our children and how they earnestly and deeply they love God. Their complete trust in Him and that He is there to love them and make their lives complete. Truly if we have the faith of a child we would be so much better off. Watch your children, look at them worship God, and learn. Learn to love God as a child and to seek that relationship with Him that they have.
